Canberra Powerchair Football League

Power soccer has been a developing project for our charity and Capital Football working together for 5 or 6 years (I have copied Mark Barnes into this email as we work together on this). It has been a slow build, in part as I mentioned, due to the circumstances of many of the possible players we meet. It can often be daunting for someone, particularly a young child to jump into something they may never have thought possible. The one thing we have all learnt is patience as we build the league in Canberra.

We have built the competition in Canberra to the point we have 10-12 regular players. A team consists of 4 players so we now have a small domestic league consisting of Woden Valley and Gungahlin. As numbers build we will need to have other Clubs get involved and support a team in the local competition.

We would like to invite the Monaro Panthers to consider being one of these teams.

We envisage this would be something we could develop over 2023 as we attract new players and build our supply of chairs. The area covered by Monaro Panthers means there are bound to be potential players that have not heard about power soccer yet. We could work together to identify these players and encourage them to get involved.

Our aim would be to provide all the necessary equipment, primarily the power soccer chair, which is a modified electric sports chair. These are expensive and becoming difficult to source so we would be happy to work with any potential sponsors that Monaro might identify. We would look to Monaro for the support typically supplied to any team, jumpers, coaching support and so on.
